Design errors are related to Eskom's Medupi and Kusile power plants



Eskom's Mega Power Plants Medupi and Kusile, which were supposed to ease SA's power limitations, have many serious designs and technical failures that hamper their operation.

The poor performance of the new power plants is crucial, so Eskom is still unable to meet its energy needs despite adding 3,200 MW capacity to the grid since 2015. The tool went into phase four load shedding mode Monday and dropped 4,000 MW from the grid the largest amount to date it needs to throw to keep the grid stable.
