The X2 series starts from $ 49,900, but we have 2.0-liter turbo-drivers from $ 55,900. The sample tested was $ 63,940 with options. Metallic paint alone adds $ 1120 – and it's $ 500 for Apple CarPlay (default on most rivals) and $ 150 per year after the first three-year subscription ends. Android Auto is not available. Service intervals are conditional based and a three-year purchase package is a competitive $ 1120. The warranty is three years / unlimited mileage.

DESIGN / TECH

Looking sharp, a new thank you for the SUV theme. It's about as long as a Toyota Corolla but has a higher driving position. The nice roof line restricts backwards and three quarters of vision. The interior has an exclusive appearance and good space storage. The tailgate can be operated by pressing a button or by using the fob key.

ENGINE

2.0-liter turbo (141kW / 280Nm) is perky rather than high performance but faster than most hatchbacks. Paras with a 7-speed dual-coupling auto, giving the power to the front wheels. The lack of AWD hardware and lower power gives the X2 a bit better fuel economy than Volvo (6.0L / 100km), but as with most luxury cars, the premium needs lead-free.

SECURITY

Standard brake assistance primer the brakes before an emergency stop and slows the car. Autonomous emergency braking that puts the car on hold is in a package of $ 2600 with a larger navigation screen and playback screen.

DRIVING

With its sport springs and low profile tires on 19-inch wheels, X2 steerily controls and has fast reflexes in the corners. The suspension is a fast-paced company and the running tires are noisy on rough chip surfaces. This is the compromise to favor handling skills over a plush ride.

The XC40 Series starts at $ 44,990 and this is the T5 R-Design Launch Edition. The only option is premium color ($ 1150). The standard price includes Apple CarPlay / Android Auto, digital radio and built-in navigation. Service interval is 12 months / 15,000 km. The cost of routine maintenance over three years is high to 2165 USD. The guarantee is three years / unlimited mileage.

DESIGN / TECH

The XC40 is one of the most distinctive SUVs, making smart, fresh designs from the inside out. The interior is dominated by a large nine-inch touchscreen touchscreen. The carpet-lined door panels have big pockets and there is a decent room in the back and luggage.

ENGINE

In this class, the turbo 2.0 liter power is calculated (185kW / 350Nm) to deliver acceleration in level with hot gaps such as the VW Golf GTI. It will be an eight-speed car and four-wheel drive, the power and hardware make Volvo a thirst than BMW (7.7 l / 100 km) but it's still competitive. As with BMW, it insists on premium lead-free.

Standard is seven airbags, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian, cyclist and animal detection, track management (up to 15 seconds handsfree) and rear camera. Optional safety equipment includes blind zone warning, rear crossing warning, rear AEB, 360 degree display camera and radar control – Volvo has included this technology package on launch release, hence higher starting prices.

DRIVING

It rides on larger 20 "wheels with low profile tires, but Volvo has done a remarkable job to get the XC40 to handle shocks quiet and hassle free. This combined with its smooth handling makes it more sporty and comfortable to drive than BMW, an impressive dual action.

JUDGMENT

XC40 operates better than X2 – and packs better performance and more equipment for less money.
