Seattle / Cupertino, California (APA / Reuters) – Amazon is expanding its range of Apple products. Just before Christmas Eve, the two American Technology Agreements agreed to expand their previously limited collaboration. The world's largest online retailer announced Friday to sell the latest versions of iPhones, iPads, Apple Watch and other devices in the US, Europe, Japan and India in the next few weeks.
So far, Amazon only offers a limited range of Apple products like Macs and Beats brand headphones. Not included in the new offer, however, is Apple's streaming speaker HomePod, which competes with Amazon's online counterpart Echo and Alexa's voice service.
Amazon, Apple, and other US technology names, such as Google, have little collaborative ability because of their competitive range of devices and services. However, Amazon and Apple have overcome these differences to increase sales during the year's most important retail time. The new partnership also shows that Amazon's market power continues to grow in importance for top brands such as Apple and Nike, who have long resisted distributing their products through the online retailer.
At the same time, Amazon is more difficult to counterfeit branded goods. As of January 4, Amazon will remove third-party Apple products from its offer, which is not approved by the iPhone manufacturer for sale. Nevertheless, customers should continue to be able to purchase brand-free accessories, such as headphones, in the internet store, which are compatible with Apple devices.
