In an interview with this week's Direct to Point program, Otávio Celidônio, superintendent of the National Rural Apprenticeship Service of Mato Grosso (Senar-MT) talked about the growing demand for food in the world and the main bottlenecks hampering agricultural expansion, especially in the state .
Otávio believes that Brazilian agribusiness has a great capacity for expansion, driven primarily by an increase in demand in Asia and in the future of Africa. An alternative to meeting this potential demand for food would be to invest in higher value-added products such as meat in general and especially fish.
"The production we have the potential here in Mato Grosso, and in Brazil as a whole, of breeding, despite a relatively low consumption, can be expanded. If we look at the natural conditions we must develop the fish, we have great potential , "he explains.

"We have a very large volume of family farms in the state, they are about 6 million hectares. The vast majority are small owners, with very little production. Today, the producers who are assisted (by Senar) can live exclusively on milk. In addition to technical assistance, it is necessary to develop other things, such as market structure, "he says.
According to the Diagnosis of the Milk Chain, published by the Institute of Mato Grosso for the Agricultural Economy (Imea), in 51% of the state's dairy properties, the daily production does not exceed 50 liters. In another 22%, production is between 50 and 100 liters a day. The reality confirms the great consideration of family farming in the state.
