In order to prevent yellow fever infections, the Ministry of Health recommends that persons living in areas at risk of transmission of the disease should be vaccinated before summer time. The season, which focuses on rainy periods, is the period that contributes to the spread of Aedes aegypti, the disease vector in urban areas.
Caution should be taken especially in the states of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, where many of the population have not yet been immunized. Dangerously, the mortality rate of the disease register is 40%.
Throughout the year, more than 30 million doses have already been distributed to health records. The single dose vaccination campaign is aimed at people over nine months. Since the beginning of the year, 1 311 cases of the disease have been confirmed.
