Mars apparently enters the festive spirit just in time for Christmas, with a large crater on the red planet seen covered with ice 1,8 km thick.
The amazing image was captured by the European Space Agency (ESA )'s Mars Express mission.
The Korolev crater, near Mars & # 39; north pole, measures 82 km across.
The image consists of five shots taken by Mars Express High Resolution Stereo Camera, ESA said in a Facebook post.
ESA's Mars mission is the agency's first venture to another planet after it entered Mars in circulation on Christmas Day 2003.
