A massive fire on a timber yard knocked out hydro equipment serving Pembroke, Ont., Wednesday night, throwing cards most of the city in the dark.
Power was restored to most communities at 10:40. Wednesday, but a handful of homes were still out of service.
Ottawa River Power Corporation's last update at. 11.30 p.m. Estimated all power could be restored by 10am Thursday.
It shared safety tips with residents about what to do during a long power outage, such as Do not leave light unattended without using barbecue or camping heaters inside because of the risk of carbon monoxide and limiting the opening of refrigerator and freezer doors.
2,770 homes in the dark
The fire started at 8:10 pm Wednesday at Heideman timber yard on the border in the community.
Hydro employees had to navigate the flames to repair and restore power to 2,770 homes.
Society Mayor Michael LeMay said the city was incredibly dark, with a red soft light up the horizon.
The fire was still burning from 8 am. 11 Wednesday. There was no word on the cause.
Pembroke is about 150 kilometers west of Ottawa.
