BEIJING, January 1 (Xinhua) – Chinese scientists have developed a new titanium alloy coating method to improve the biocompatibility of the titanium material used for dental and orthopedic implants.
Titanium is one of the most widely used materials for medical implants, but it has poor bioactivity, which is why it is important to increase it so that these implants connect better to bone.
Researchers at the University of Science and Technology in Anhui have used the mechanical treatment of wear to modify the surface of titanium. The results of in vitro experiments showed that the modified overlay can significantly increase osteoblast response and significantly improve the titanium biocompatibility.
The research, whose results were published by the Materials Science and Engineering journal, provides a promising form of surface modification for future titanium medical implants.
