Handicap, friend and waffles, among the new emojia from 2019



Unicode, the consortium regulating the use of emojis or emoticons in the world, announced that this year will allow a new group of these images, which for the first time include people with disabilities, food like waffles or Argentinean buddy and new movements like eg. yawning, among others.

According to this nonprofit's website, the new members of this "selected group" were selected after their emoji subcommittee "analyzed thousands of suggestions sent by users" across the world, which should include the justification for those to be included in the list and other data.

Unicode noted that among these symbols, which exceed 2,000 in total and have become popular in messaging services to represent emotions and ease of expression, they will finally reach the absent-minded people with disabilities.

In the "list of happy faces" there will be available to the users drawings of a deaf person (woman and man in different skin tones), a mechanical arm and a leg, an ear with hearing aid, persons in wheelchairs – motorized or manual, people who use a shock absorber and a guide or service dog.

The number 12 will also be included in this update, according to Unicode, pairs of two men or two women holding hands in the family category.

Among the foods that are one of the most widely used groups in the world, even for uses other than culinary, there will be representations of garlic, onions, waffles, butter, falafel, oysters, juice box, ice cream, and the famous Argentine food grass. .

In addition, animals such as sloth, otter, orangutan, skunk and flamenco will also have an emoji this year.

This list, whose application depends on applications of chat and mobile operating systems, which in some cases change the original images of others with their own stamp, completes small satin drawings, a yoyo, a parachute, a diving mask, a banjo, safety vest, or tape.

Last year, Unicode also included fifty new symbols that revolutionized social networks, including the peacock, the flame, an abacus, the superhero profession or the DNA double helix.

According to a global survey of Brandwatch on Twitter, emoji is more used by women (61%) than men (39%) and is used mainly to express positive emotions – three quarters have optimistic significance. (EFE)
