Important topics in antimicrobial resistance workshop in Cuba

Havana, -Lab monitoring of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is among the topics to be discussed today in connection with an event held here (IPK).
National and foreign assistants to the 1st international workshop on integrated monitoring of antimicrobial resistance in Cuba will also analyze issues such as the global and national AMR control plan.

Also, the role of producing food of plant and animal origin for consumption in ADR, epidemiology of food-borne pathogens and the integrated Canadian antimicrobial resistance monitoring program.

The appointment, which runs until the 15th, will fulfill its scientific program in two work sessions, according to the organizers led by Dianely's Quiñones.

Also, according to the head of the National Laboratory of Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring in pathogens related to healthcare-related infections, almost no antibiotics are available to treat infections in hospitals.

According to Quiñones, new substances have been developed for this purpose on the market, but the island does not have them available in the national base table.

These are very expensive antimicrobials, but in addition – they also won't solve the resistance problem, he recently told Prensa Latina.

The specialist believes that a more cautious and appropriate application in our hospitals, a refinement of the pharmacotherapeutic committees, a revitalization of microbiology and a refinement of the prevention and control program are measures that will promote the improvement of this situation.
