INE updates the basket of goods and services and adds Netflix and Spotify

Netflix and Spotify will be some of the elements that will be included in the updated basket of goods and services, making it possible to measure the consumer price index (CPI) as announced by The National Institute of Statistics (INE).

"This change in the base year meant updating the curve of goods and services in the CPI – using the VIII Family Budgeting Survey (EPF) as the main source – to reflect the way consumer habits have changed. The change also allowed for the introduction of technical and operational improvements to build a more accurate and representative index of the economy's price behavior, "says INE, according to Biobiochile.

On the other hand Goods like costumes, soil, fertilizer or legal advice will no longer be part of the basket.

"The selected products correspond to the most consumed in at least four of the five quintiles of the population, that is, in most socio-economic layers, "they explained from the organism.

These changes are reflected from February 8, 2019, the date on which the January CPI will be delivered.
