Ethiopia: Railway Corporation Gets New CEO


Sintayehu Woldemichael (PhD), former Minister of Education, became the new president of the Ethiopian Railway Association on November 5, 2018.

Corporation has been headed by the executive director Yehuwalashet Jemere since former CEO Berhanu Beshah (PhD) resigned.

Sileshi Bekele (PhD), Minister for Water, Irrigation and Energy and Chairman of the Board, approved Berhanu Beshah's doctoral dissertation on October 1, 2018.

The new Chief Executive Officer served as Director General of the Public Finance Supervisory Authority before joining the Ministry of Education.

Ethiopian Railway Corporation was established in November 2007 by the Council of Ministers.

Corporation has monitored several billion dollar projects of railroads in eight corridors including Addis Ababa-Modjo-Awash-Dire Dawa-Dewaele; Modjo-Shashemne-Arbaminch-Konso-Moyale; Addis Ababa-Ljaji-Jimma-Gudaferda Dima, with an extension to southern Sudan; and the Awash-Kombolcha-Meqelle-Shire routes.
