A specialist explains how to cough and get rid of neck pain

So uncomfortable cough and aching neck, which many of us encounter in autumn and winter, can often prove to be something that is not easy to handle. What are the main reasons for a painful neck and cough and how to handle them, "explains Zanda Ozoliņa, a pharmacist at Benu Pharmacy.

Pharmacists indicate that the most common, up to 90 percent of cases, the cause of neck pain is a virus. It is important to understand the cause of the problem in order to combat it effectively. Only then can we choose the treatment method and the recommended solutions. However, it is best to prevent inflammation and disease by strengthening immunity.

Viruses and infections

Among the viruses that cause an upset neck are colds, flu, mononucleosis, measles, chicken pox or epidemic parotitis. Bacterial infections, the most common A group of streptococcal bacteria can also cause sore throat. Bacterial infections are more common in children, in about 40% of cases. Immune responses to an allergen like pollen can also cause symptoms such as nose, sneezing and inflammation of the throat. Dry air, smoking and other irritants may also cause inflammation of the mouth and throat.

How to avoid

To avoid heartburn, as one of the first agents, pharmacologists mention immunity by feeding on natural foods like ginger or garlic. Vitamin C should be purchased at the pharmacy in appropriate doses and echinacea (Echinacea purpurea) that contain nutritional supplements will strengthen the immune system of adult humans. In turn, it is best recommended for small children to use probiotics or immunomodulators, such as peanut fruit concentrates containing nutritional supplements. Let's not forget about the use of our "sun" vitamin or vitamin D. Personal hygiene also reduces the spread of the virus, which poses a high risk of morbidity.

How important is immunity

With our age, our immunity becomes weaker, so the strength determines if we get sick with a certain disease, and if the virus "shrinks" behind the legs, then the indicator is the length of our disease. Immunity is affected by several factors, but the main pharmacists mention stress, insomnia, malnutrition and lack of physical activity. In accordance with a healthy and active lifestyle, we can avoid disease.

When teen alone is not enough

In most cases, symptoms such as neck pain, runny nose, dry cough and slightly elevated temperatures in 7-10 days diminish. Combined antiinflammatory drugs can be used to alleviate the disease, but this is not desirable. It's best to stay home if you happen to be sick – relax, drink a lot of fluid – both water and hot tea with ginger and honey, eat healthy food, inhale with a mixture of medicinal plants like chamomile and peppermint, rinse the throat with warm saline . It is not advisable to drink hot and carbonated drinks, as these throats may irritate even more.

If the throat is aching for a long time, the nose is blocked and there is a pain in the nostrils, and if the cough is longer than three weeks and the body temperature has increased for a long time, it is advisable to contact a specialist who will provide you with appropriate treatment.

Caution with antibiotics

As long as the doctor has not identified the cause of throat or cough, it is not advisable to use antibiotics because it will not work in a disease caused by the virus. Only further impairment of the disease will result in destruction of our immune guards or the positive bacteria present in the gastrointestinal tract. The use of the above hot and carbonated drinks is not recommended either. Patients who are overheated should not be left unnecessarily covered with blankets, on the contrary let it cool. As an extra measure, a damp cloth can be applied to the forehead. For small patients, do not use aspirin because of possible Ray's syndrome to reduce the temperature.

How to fight with dry and moist cough

At the beginning of a virus-induced disease, the host is often dry and itchy. It is therefore recommended to use cough-reducing or cough-softening drugs. They usually contain Icelandic pickles or extracts of pine leaves that soothe and moisten the cough. With a lot of fluid and taking into account the dose and administration range of the drug, the cough is already productive. For these symptoms it is recommended to use an expectorant such as ivy or syrup or, if sputum is more pronounced, a chemical drug. Almost all of these medicines should be taken with meals and take the last daily dose at least three hours before bedtime. Do not forget to drink a lot of fluid.

If the cough is too tired or delayed, you should definitely contact a specialist who will provide you with the treatment you need.

What is good for parents may not be suitable for children

Although some diseases occur in both adults and children, the pattern of many respiratory diseases in children is clearly different in adults from children, for example cold-related viruses, children can develop severe respiratory diseases such as bronchitis. In case of acute cough, parents should, when using certain medicines, whether they are prescribed by a doctor or prescribed by a physician, ensure that the dry host's dynamism becomes wet. If this dynamic is not observed, the medication should be changed. In dry stomach ulcers, antihistamines may be added to antiinflammatory drugs, which will reduce irritation. Most of all, one has to worry about a productive cough because it is often the case that small patients do not have to wake up, so when the cups fit, the pillow does not fit almost horizontally, but a little bit free.

It should always be remembered that we, adults, can describe our symptoms and cough, but small patients can not, therefore, listen to the coughs in the child and consult a specialist about the most appropriate treatments.
