Every other adult patient does not know that he has diabetes, says the head of Latvia's Diabetes Federation (LDF), Endocrinologist Indra Štelmane.

The medicine noted that there are over 90,000 people with diabetes in Latvia, and this disease affects a large number of families. Additionally, diabetes causes diabetes not only for the patient but also for its relatives daily, which brings many new challenges.

"We encourage everyone to regularly check their health and determine their diabetes risks and encourage family members to be tested," says Stelmane.

Celebrate World Diabetes Day, LDF invites people to an informative event at the Riga Central Market Root Pavilion at 3, 3, 3 k-3 Centrāltirgus Street, from 14:00 to 17 November next week.

During the event, it will be possible to consult experts, to determine your cholesterol at no cost and get coupons for free sugar control.

The event will also include endocrinologist and nutritionist counseling on the prevention and treatment of diabetes, healthy eating and physical activity.

The Latvian Children's and Youth League in turn organizes a "detectable diabetes-save life!" The event, which takes place on November 17 at Kalnciema quarter market Kalnciema iela 35, Riga, from kl. 10:00 to 16:00 During that time, nutritional special consultations, natural sweetener testing and creative reflective workshop.

As a representative of the Latvian Diabetes Center Marta Lagzdiņa, society informed a social campaign "Stronger for Diabetes" on November 14 to attract more public attention to the spread of diabetes in Latvia and raise awareness among people.

It is designed as a social experiment where three personally-known individuals – Kristine Garklava, Magnuss Eriņš and Edgars Bāliņš – will try to "live and match forces" with diabetes in the role of musician, improvisation theaterist Nauris Brikmanis.

According to Lagzndin, experimental participants will be able to survive and through various tasks and tests "enjoy their skin" everyday diabetic patients, including situations where diabetes lies next to each other, step by step, sometimes impresses when it is expected at least, which significantly impedes all human activity and behavior, and sometimes even creates mistakes, but also health and life-threatening moments.

The launch of the campaign will take place on November 14 at 11.00 in the Deep White office for the Communications Board. The event will present statistics on diabetics in Latvia and provide practical advice to diabetics and peers, as well as experiences of diabetic patient experiences and describe the social experiment.

According to the Center for Disease Prevention and Prevention, 29 492 people were affected by diabetes in Latvia in 2001, while in 2017 they were already diagnosed with 91 571 persons.
