Influenza is more contagious and aggressive: Ministry of Health


Hermosillo, Sonora, November 17, 2018. – Due to influenza's behavior where aggressiveness is intensified every two years, this winter season 2018-2019 is expected to manifest with greater force and mortality, Gerardo Álvarez Hernández warned.

The Director General for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention of the Ministry of Health explained that the virus has a half-year cycle, so that every two years it gets stronger and there are more cases than happened in the previous season.

Similarly, he added that the risk of serious forms and consequently deaths, especially in those with risk factors, should be vaccinated against influenza protected from this month, as in January and February, when there is a big rise in cases.

"Those most vulnerable are children between 6 and 5 years, adults over 60 years, pregnant women, those with obesity, diabetes, hypertension, smoking, chronic lung disease, heart disease., HIV, cancer, among others," he said. .

The biological against influenza is safe and available in health units, protects against circulating viruses this season and prevents the disease or minimizes the effects, avoiding risks that endanger life.

Álvarez Hernández pointed out that according to the Ministry of Health's epidemiological records, almost all people who died of influenza in previous seasons did not vaccinate, why the importance of going to health care.

He pointed out that flu is an infectious respiratory disease that spreads easily and can spread rapidly in schools, asylum, workplaces and cities and affects man between three and seven days, depending on the severity.

"If you have fever, some type of cough, headache, sore throat, nausea and fatigue, do not self-medicate and you should go straight to your health device to deal with the disease," he concluded.
