Pop superstar Miley Cyrus' newest song may provide a revealing look into her marriage breakdown with actor Liam Hemsworth.
Earlier this week, a representative of the US singer confirmed Cyrus and Hemsworth had separated after seven months of marriage.
"Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what's best while they both focus on themselves and [their] careers, ”the representative said in a statement to People.
Rumors quickly swirled that one of the main reasons for their split was Cyrus' dislike for Hemsworth's alleged partying ways, with sources telling People that she believes he should have outgrown that by now. Sources have also made similar comments to TMZ.
While people close to Hemsworth have denied he drinks a lot or does drugs, Cyrus' new song Slide Away does contain lyrics some believe are a nod to the couple's relationship.
"Because my house in the hills, I don't want the whiskey and pills. I don't give up easily, but I don't think down," says one line.
Another says: "Move on, not 17, I'm not who I used to be. You say that everything changed, you're right, we're grown now."
One line also asks for someone to go "back to the ocean. I'll go back to the city lights". Some online have said that could be a suggestion that Hemsworth should go back to his homeland of Australia – known for its oceans and beaches – while returning to its Los Angeles roots.
"Miley really just tells Liam to slide away back to the ocean aka Australia and away from her," said one Twitter user. "Miley went from crying over Liam in Wrecking Ball to telling him to move on in Slide Away … I'M SOBBING," said another.
