Now it's faster than ever



We have already tested the latest generation of the Porsche SUV Cayenne. But now it is available with two important news:

1. You get it with a bit of coupe-like roofline.

2. It gets an electric and gasoline engine that gives a total of 680 hp and has a specified electric range of 40 kilometers (according to the so-called NEDC measurement method)

The Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupe is the name of the model, offering both of the two new news in combination.

In a car that weighs 2.5 tons, it is obviously not easy to get sports car performance. But Porsche is nobody. And of course, have it here too. 0-100 km / h is delivered in 3.8 seconds in the test car we have access to.
The top speed was supposed to be 295 km / h – and we were actually not far away to confirm that it fits quite well!

We are at the launch of the car in Germany and Belgium. As we thundered over the Autobahn stretches without speed limit, we clocked well above 260 km / h.

But for the sake of traffic we had to stop there …

If you want to do that, muscles are needed. And the Turbo S E-Hybrid has just that in abundance.

Behind a lot of black and sad plastic covers in the engine compartment is far from sad power pack. The petrol engine is a 4-liter V8 that produces 550 hp and has a whopping 770 Nm of torque.

This also receives electrical assistance. The electric motor alone can send the car from 0-100 km / h in 6.6 seconds. So there is no slowdown! It can also be used alone up to 135 km / h, but of course when the two power sources work together,
that it really starts to smell out of date. The hysterical peak power is namely 680 hp and 900 Nm. Then you can, for example, enjoy the feeling of spending 13.2 seconds from stationary to 200 km / h. These are crazy numbers for a giant,
tall and heavy family car.

What is new?

The new body is part of the news. It looks really sporty and cool in the Coupe edition. Parked next to a Cayenne with the traditional hedge, it certainly looks tougher.

Despite the falling ceiling line, the ceiling height in the back seat is not a problem. The explanation is that the seats are simply lowered 30 mm compared to the standard Cayenne. The legroom is just as impressive. In addition, you can adjust the seat cushion yourself
back and forth, and change the backrest angle if desired.

However, the trunk is quite high and you do not have all the luggage in the world. Of course, this is also limited by the fact that the rear end runs so much forward. 500 liters get volume – compared to 645 in the standard Cayenne. adds
you down the rear seats increase this to 1,450 liters in the Coupe edition.

What are the strengths and weaknesses?

We love the design of the Cayenne Coupe – and unless you need all the boot space for a regular Cayenne, it's a good and sporty alternative. Coupe-like SUVs are in the wind like never before.

The Turbo S E-Hybrid is otherwise a formidable power pack! In addition, 680 hp comes very close to the Autobahn, where we were given the opportunity to drive it. It leaves at speeds well above 200 km / h without blinking.

Rear seats are longitudinally adjustable and the back angle can also be adjusted. The roof height of the Coupe is surprisingly good because the seats are somewhat lower here than in a regular Cayenne.

The area is 44 km. It is thanks to the 14 kWt battery. At launch we will not be able to test the range, but as far as we know it should not be completely unrealistic under favorable conditions.

But can of course claim that it is nonetheless too low. Both the BMW X5 and Mercedes GLE 350e have significantly better range.

When you choose to drive the car in hybrid mode, it feels somewhat undesirable. Especially if you want fast acceleration, whether off the intersection or passing. It usually takes some time for the gasoline engine to turn on. but
when it first does! Holy Moses, then just cling on – because then it will disappear!

It is therefore best enjoyed in Sport mode – where the internal combustion engine runs constantly. Then you rather manage driving methods according to conditions.

You also have the option of getting air suspension, which provides five different ride heights. The minimum ground clearance is 16.2 cm – but if you want to get out into the terrain, you actually get up to 24.5 cm.

Who are the competitors?

Not many people here, of course. Mercedes, Audi and BMW have nothing rechargeable in this segment comparable to the Cayenne E-Hybrid. Bentley Bentayga is probably the closest you get to measuring power with the Porsche strap.

The two also come from the same group. Our tip here: If you want comfort, go to Bentayga – if you want more driving pleasure, Cayenne is a good alternative.

You can curse that! Unless it's someone who hates everything that smells like gasoline. But if that's the case, just always hour it so you run past pure electrical power.

Broom thinks

We are a little uncertain if the concept is really needed. After all, a regular Cayenne Turbo manages the 4.1-second sprint exercise that lasts the most. At the same time, it weighs 300 kilos less, which helps with the driving characteristics. other than that

In Norway, however, the Cayenne Turbo becomes more expensive – thanks to fees. The Turbo S E-Hybrid actually has a stated consumption of only 0.39 l / mile. It provides solid tax relief!

If you want to support the environment, you might want to go for the Cayenne Hybrid. It has 462 hp – and does 0-100 km / h in 5.1 seconds. But it has better electric range and lower fuel consumption – and costs a lot less.

As mentioned: the Coupe version you choose if you are not most concerned about the practical and most possible space. It just looks tougher!
