Tests and consumables needed to carry out the test were distributed free of charge to family medical doctors along with informative materials on how to transfer the hepatitis C virus and the risk of non-diagnosis and rapid treatment of infected persons.
"Through our approach, we want to give us the chance to heal, benefit from the treatments available today in Romania for hepatitis C infected persons who find that they suffer from this condition after testing. According to specialists, the degree of healing with these treatments is over 95% and patients can avoid serious complications that can occur if they are not treated in time ", said the president of the Health Equity Association, Maria Vasilescu, during the campaign opening event, which took place in Bacau.
Three years ago, the Romanian healthcare system offers innovative therapies for the treatment of hepatitis C. At present, three treatment systems are provided under the agreement on cost-volume results concluded by CNAS. Within one year, as of September 1, 2018, 13,000 patients with F1, F2, F3, F4, F4, F4, F4, F4, F4 and / or CF patients and chronic patients will be treated renal failure in dialysis with therapies more appropriate.
It is the second HCV test campaign conducted by the Equity in Health Association. If the campaign in the previous campaigns was mainly aimed at large urban areas, the current campaign focuses primarily on the population of small towns, municipalities and villages, which guarantees equal opportunities for access to innovative treatments.
At the launch of the test campaign, organized in Bacau, officials from the healthcare system participated with specialists and family doctors.
"Since September 1, a new agreement on cost volumes has been concluded, which includes, in addition to the 11 existing university centers, the centers of Pitesti and Bacau. This is in support of our insured, CJAS Bacau, who will not be treated in Iasi, Galaţi or Bucharest. This contract now also deals with patients with F1 fibrosis, so the degree of fibrosis as a criterion for patients'said ec. Ion-Marius Savin, CEO of Bacau County Health Insurance House
Given the fact that there is no hepatitis C treatment center in Neamţ County, patients who are positively detected in the campaign taking place in this county will benefit from treatment provided by specialists in gastroenterology or infectious diseases within the specialized centers as provided under the contract concluded by CNAS.
"At CJAS Neamţ there are three public hospitals where patients can be monitored, with specialists in gastroenterology and infectious diseases: in Piatra Neamţ, Târgu Neamţ and Roman. According to current legislation, we ensure the costs of examinations of patients diagnosed with hepatitis C and subsequent costs needed for treatment, "said Elena Harpa, chairman of CJAS Neamt, at the launch of the test campaign in Neamt County.
"There are many hepatitis C infected patients and we fear we can not find them all. Therefore it is very important that we identify them and even if we make a waiting list by the end of the year they will be treated," explained Dr. Anca Trifan , chairman of the Romanian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, during the campaign start-up event in Piatra Neamt.
In the first test campaign, between January 15, 2017 – February 28, 2018, 16,964 patients were tested in 7 of the largest hospitals in Bucharest and the country. The results were evaluated by gender and age groups (n.r. 18-49 / 50-60 / 60+), respecting the confidentiality of medical data. The campaign showed that 6% (1,013 people) of the patients tested are hepatitis C virus carriers. The highest proportion of people who were positive for testing were in the age group 60+.
"We need you, your family doctor, who know your patients best, when they come to us at gastroenterology, do you already have a certificate of what chronic conditions they have, what other drugs they take, just to test interactions," added Luminiţa Popovici , Head of the Gastroenterology Department, County Emergency Hospital, Bacau.
The test campaign "Hepatit C Cure" is performed by AES with the support of ABBVIE.
