Litchfield Porsche 911 Carrera T: Drive a 485-horsepower Porsche 911

I know, the model 992 will soon be shown, and we've already managed to ride it. But 992th should be very good to surpass the version of the car that this review is intended for.

But this is a standard Carrera T, right?

So I guessed not! Just looking. Yes, for the most part it is. The car was completed by Litchfield. We like what Litchfield does. Previously, the company increased the power of the Audi RS6 with 200 hp, refined the BMW M2 and gave Subaru BRZ the necessary energy.

And this time?

Now the goal was to make the Porsche 911, which would be the best way to behave on the roads. And this is not an easy task, given that Porsche already has such a car, GT3. But if we start such improvements, it's best to start with Carrera T (properties at the end of the article). Let me remind you: this is an easy, driver-oriented version of the standard Carrera – the power is normal, but the weight decreases by 20 kilos. Reduced insulation, dust handles, no rear seals, thinner glass and so on. By default, there was a sports exhaust and PASM suspension, lowered by 20 mm.

And what did the Litchfield specialists do?

They left the adaptive shock absorbers PASM, but the springs became stiffer and shorter, the suspension was lowered by an additional 20 mm forward and 10 behind. Installed 7mm gaskets, why the wheels began to eject more, which improves stability. The suspension components are still the same, but the front lower control arm now has a solid rigid sleeve that not only improves the accuracy of the control but also changes the camber angle, keeping the wheel in a more correct position during the suspension.

All this is a difficult development …

I agree, leave them in chambers and discuss the engine. This is still a familiar 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine. You and I know that Porsche adjusts it so that Carrera S is more powerful than Carrera, and GTS is even stronger. We will not mention this version with the letter T (meaning Turbo) because it has another engine, which will complicate the listing.

It is clear that the power of the Carrera T (370 hp and torque of 450 Nm) can be improved. In short, Litchfield installed just a new exhaust manifold and catalysts of its own design, installed the new Akrapovic exhaust system, and then worked with the engine chip to properly adjust fuel supply, so now the power is 485 hp and torque equal to 623 Nm. This is 115 hp and 173 Newton meters more than the standard version, these numbers look good against the backdrop of GT3 (500 hp and 460 Nm).

But there is a "but". The engine is not atmospheric and can not get 9000 rpm. The gearbox is not a six-speed manual but a seven speed. If we count and change the gear, then only eight steps. The declared performance figures are not announced, but I think this version will accelerate to about half a second faster. Carrera T does it in four and a half seconds.

But the point is not only in speed increase, but also in controllability. I do not like the fact that Porsche started putting turbocharging on their cars, but turbocharged engines make the power affordable. I never thought Carrera T lacks agility in the lower part of the reef, but this engine shows excellent dynamics a lot earlier and accelerates faster. At 2400 yards it just takes off. Goodbye, adyos, orevuar to all those you see in the rearview mirror. And special efforts are not observed, just the turbine twist, and those who have slowed behind you can only see the truck on your car. Even though he is now breaking smaller, the springs are stiffer.

And that means you can cut the third gear and do everything?

Or fourth. I criticize the Porsche 911 in part for long transfers, but this car has a seven speed box, and the latter is shorter – to emphasize the spirit of Carrera T. In addition, a good turn eliminates all problems. And the gear lever is good and strong. I do not see the problem that others describe in a seven speed box. In my opinion, it's good.

Of course, the turbocharging engine is very noticeable, but because the turbines are small, they get fast speed. At low speeds, the delay of the turbine is not a problem, but at high speeds as well. The effect is good and incremental – it is already shown at low speeds and does not disappear up to 7000. A fairly wide range.

How about handling?

Not as accurate as the GT3, but as a car in the road, this car is not worse than GT3, if not better. Just saying. The depreciation was not affected, but with more rigid feathers it became better. On the way, this car runs better than the standard Carrera T, from the road you get more feedback – the answer is more detailed.

But comfort has not suffered. As usual in the Porsche 911, the biggest problem is to comfortably cruise the noise from tires, but in this version of the car you get at least the information you need to handle this. And this information comes not only through the fifth point, but also by the wheel. Installing a stiff bush may seem the slightest change, but this change has had a strong impact on the steering response. It's cool that the control response was gone, sharpness was added. The brakes were left in their own Porsche modified carbon ceramic PCCB. They do not differ in any way (they work perfectly), but because the machine sits lower on more stiff springs, it nibbles less under severe braking, the weight shift is smaller. Same with overclocking. And in the corners. The car maintains its position, the turns are smooth and rigid, and the grip on the way out of the arc is amazing. I really like driving this car. Yes, I'm a masochist, and I would choose GT3 because it has 9000 laps and a sharper dynamics, but I really liked Litchfield Carrera T.

Is this all good news?

It depends on what kind of Porsche 911 you like. If you now have a Carrera, and you like it, but you wonder how it would work, if it was a bit sporty, half from GT3, without sharp noise, that's the answer to this question. When you start Litchfield, Carrera T sounds powerful and cool, and when you drive through uneven parts of the road, the front end shakes a bit like the old Porsche 911.

A couple of times, it seemed to me that the car was turning back and forth on the feathers – a slight idea that the feathers are not synchronized in front of and behind. But then I told me I would stop being a ridiculous pedant and start enjoying the car for what it is. Because it is a very nice, very caring and finished car, comfort and usability has not been hit at all, and driving pleasure has only increased.

Fan, I do not have Carrera T to put such a package on her …

Do not worry, a package that costs 10 339 pounds can be put on any Carrera model with a turbocharged engine. Do not want the entire package? You can only select individual items. Improvements to the suspension cost 1703 pounds, complete the engine and transfer 8111 pounds, or you can not take Akrapovic exhaust and save. Litchfield gives full warranty on all works.
