Massive security operation for ASEAN Summit, Singapore News & Top Stories

About 5000 Singapore Police Force (SPF) officers are joining a comprehensive security operation to protect the 33st Asian Summit, which takes place at the Suntec Singapore Convention Center this week.

Five-day series of meetings began yesterday and the area around the arena has been declared an improved security-specific event area where strict security controls and actions will be implemented.

The summit will be leaders and their delegations from around the world, including Russia's President Vladimir Putin, who visits Singapore for the first time.

SPF Director of Business Hur Kwang Hwee said security arrangements demanded a multi-agency initiative, adding: "The police are in charge of security and we are supported by other security agencies from home-based departments, Singapore's armed forces and auxiliary staff."
