Ben Thompson finished a memorable eight days in his career on Saturday, which led Neville Parnham-trained Malibu Style to victory in the $ 120,000 listed Clanbrooke Racing Doveton Stakes (1000m).

Thompson placed Malibu Style ($ 21) forward on the midfield and he found enough pressure to defeat Bons Away ($ 7.50) with a neck, with a piece ($ 16) a short lead away in third position.

"It's great to drive this horse today because he's so consistent and he has proven he can match it with these horses," said Thompson.

"The speed was solid but I thought he was the strongest horse in the race and the strongest over 1000 meters as long as it would be a test.

"I hit the front for probably 50 meters and was then led by the two horses to my outside but he dug deep."

Thompson raised his first group winner on board Mister Yeoh in Group 2 E.W. Barker Trophy (1400m) at Singapore's Kranji Banquet Track on November 9th.

And it was called on the 21-year-old rider to accept a twelve month deal with Singapore Turf Club from the beginning of next year.

"This month has been a whirlwind. The experience of last week and the tension in the direction there was high and winning a group of 2 while it was incredible to be honest, it has not yet fallen in," he said.

Malibu Style was one of several runners who were sensationally backed up to win the Doveton Stakes.

His prize was strengthened from $ 41 to $ 21 with BetEasy within the last 10 minutes of betting.

Faatinah ($ 11 to $ 4.60) and Written choice ($ 17 to $ 10) were also bullied but ran eighth and 13th respectively.
