PRAGUE – Czech Republic's Prime Minister Andrej Babis has expressed his intention to redistribute Czech citizenship to the writer Milan Kundera. This was denied him almost 40 years ago.
"He really deserves his citizenship," Babis said on Saturday at the CTK news agency in Paris, where he participated in the celebration of the ceasefire of the century during World War I.
The author of the world-renowned novel "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" (1984) was recalled in 1979 by Communist rulers in former Czechoslovakia, the citizenship. The 89-year-old customer and his wife emigrated to France in 1975. Customers were born in Brno in 1929.
