Just say that Capcom has once again decided not to annoy the fans, and we are waiting for a direct continuation of the fourth part of the story. The usual game mechanics have not changed, but only supplemented, while borrowing some ideas from DmC, although present, is not particularly striking. At the same time, they also thought of the beginners – they made a brief summary of the events from the previous parts to them, so you do not have to be confused with unfamiliar characters.
It's hard to talk about the plot without spoilers, the story of the fifth part can be stated in a few sentences without any problems (which, however, doesn't mean it's bad). Let's just say that several years have passed since the Devil May Cry 4's events, Dante, Lady and Trish, still run the company from the old office while Nero opened his own agency and with the help of engineer Niko, grandson of gunsmith, who created the guns Dante, traveling around Redgrave City County in a product decorated with a Devil May Cry neon sign. Things go well until the mysterious stranger one day takes away the demonic hand and Yamato at the same time, so now the guy is forced to use multifunctional but fragile prostheses that Nico does for him from scrap materials. Soon, on the eve of Dante's bureau, We – a sickly young man with a volume of William Blake under his arm and offering a contract to kill the demon Urizen, who claims the Mundus throne and has prepared an invasion of the human world . Well, of course, everything doesn't go according to plan.
It is necessary to play for three characters again, and Dante is only available in the second half of the game, the first five or six hours, the player is forced to control Nero and Wee. The first, honest, to the dull standard. His main weapon remains the Red Queen's Sword with the Excellency mechanism, which we know from the last part, which allows us to deliver more powerful blows and an almost useless revolver. The prostitutes save the situation, which makes it possible to radically change the style of the battle – some are focused on long-distance fighting, others throw away opponents, others beat them, beat them with electricity, neutralize them for a while or tritively treat a sign. The prosthesis can blow up at any time and cause serious damage to surrounding enemies. Unfortunately, mechanical hands are not eternal – if Nero takes damage while performing a prosthetic attack, he breaks, so the hero takes a lot of extra limbs along with him, which by the way looks as stupid as possible. In addition, Niko does not miss the chance to remind everyone that each hand is a work of art, but at the same time, prostheses are almost on every corner, even at the levels where the theory has not yet looked into it. Conventionality, of course, but a little annoying, as well as the fact that it is impossible to switch between them, and sometimes deliberately destroy half of the available prostheses to get to what is most appropriate for the current situation.
We are so different from everything we saw in Devil May Cry before. The trailers had the impression that he would be assigned to a rankings role, but in reality he was not at all a fighter, all the work was done by his family members whose movements the player cannot even properly control. The demonic collar Griffon is responsible for airborne attacks, striking enemies with lightning strikes and capable of transporting Wee over short distances. Demon Panther Shadow deals with enemies on the ground, and occasionally it turns from a giant cat to a storm of thorns and knives. Devil trigger Wee – a tremendously uncontrollable nightmare that, after pumping the right skill, you can sit and hide from the demons. Familiars, unlike their weak host, do quite a few injuries, but can't kill the demons alone, this is where Vee's stick comes in useful when he ends up exhausted opponents. Initially, V causes mixed emotions – instead of concentrating on making chains from combinations, make sure you press the affected buttons of the familiarists in time, not moving far away from the animals, so they revive faster if they are killed but at the same time stay away from enemies – they hurt hlyupika, have no time to blink. At first glance, we seem to be a difficult and strange character, but as soon as the monsters begin to die in batches, even in the middle of the fight, there will even be time to read a book. In a literal sense: in this way, Wi accelerates the filling of devil's energy.
Always Dante turns out to be cooler than both of those characters combined. He can change fighting styles and weapons at any time, enabling him to make endless combinations and instantly switch from powerful but slow strokes to weak but diabolically fast. Everything is usual with styles – Trickster allows you to avoid enemy strikes and quickly move closer. Blade Master focuses on melee weapons and the slider on firearms. Guardsman, one of the most difficult styles, is used to play defensively. In the arsenal of a favorite with the public are the good old weapons Rebellion and Sparda swords, Ebony & Ivory guns, Coyote-A shotgun, a set of gloves and count, acquired a new name, and Cerberus nunchuck. Unfortunately, in terms of photorealistic characters in Devil May Cry 5 (thank you RE Engine), the scene where the action takes place is just as vague. While the hero is fighting on the streets of Redgrave City, you do not pay much attention to this, but the closer to the final, the worse the landscaping is. In the last few hours, the hero has been sent to the monotonous hell arm, which would have been inappropriate even in a medium-order indie project.
Well, more in the game and nothing to complain about. We can safely say that the long wait was fully justified and we got a full continuation of the series with a wonderful fighting system, good humor, a driving soundtrack that dynamically adapts to the current style placement and incredibly beautiful character animations. In short, this game has to be in the collection of any really knowledgeable slasher.
