Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to introduce a CSKA Moscow player to nationality Joel Bolomboy.
Bolomba is native to Donetsk. Together with his parents (the father was a Congolese, his mother was Russian), he moved to the United States at 4 years of age, where he received a US passport.
In the summer of 2017 Bolomba met the expanded list of candidates for the Ukrainian team. But he was not in Evgeny Murzin's team at Eurobasket.
"I'm really glad I got Russian citizenship, I'm proud to be part of a fantastic country where my family comes from. I want to thank President Andrei Vatutin and everyone who played their part in the process." – said the athlete.
