Netflix announced the relative obsolescence reached by Wii consoles, given that it has already existed for a dozen years.
It's the end of the way for Netflix on Wii consoles. Media streaming company has been announced in this effect, as of January 31, 2019 as the deadline for the same to be implemented.
Netflix mailed current Wii users who informed them about the development and proposed upgrades to a supported device to continue enjoying the entire Netflix experience with all the features it comes with. All of this should not be too surprising, either because Wii is already more than a decade old now, or 12 years to be exact. It makes quite reasonable for Netflix to discontinue its operations on the console given that many of its latest features may not be available on Wii.
In fact, the Wii Shop channel also leads to closing a day earlier, it's January 30, 2019. Nintendo had also shut down channels for some time already, which means that there is little expensive that can be done with the console for days to come. Of course, users can still play games with it even if they have to be done offline and even with titles currently available. And that such titles are a dying race is too obvious too.
Among the other restrictions that will come into effect is the inability to transfer data from Wii to Wii U. The same would otherwise have been possible with the System Transfer Tool. Similarly, users can not download any of the WiiWare and Virtual Console titles they may have purchased before.
Amazon Prime and Hulu were the two other streaming options that the Wii console users could have chosen but unfortunately, with the Wii Shop Channel for set-up for its official closing soon, the two streaming options are as good as nothing. With other channels that were closed, Hulu was missing for some time already.
In the meantime, of course, there is Nintendo Switch that users can upgrade to – if they do not already have it, and understandably have better app support than its predecessor. It includes Hulu and YouTube, but unfortunately Netflix is missing on the Nintendo Switch as well. Meanwhile, there is also a new Nintendo Switch that is due to the launch in 2019.
