Samsung has already announced Galaxy S10 Before the MWC – the largest mobile show on the planet – has just begun. But note my words, this will be a busy, exciting show, and a Samsung will not miss using as a platform to display the Galaxy S10, foldable and all other things it announces Mobile World Congress 2019 starts.
Samsung will not be alone. Huawei, the world's second largest smartphone maker behind Samsung, is rumored to show its first foldable phone. LG, Nokia, Oppo and Xiaomi will also plan their brand on the annual Barcelona confab.
What makes the year's MWC even more important than last year's show is the energy we see behind three extremely powerful trends that have the potential to define a decade of mobile phones: foldable designs, 5G data rates, and incredibly complex photography due to an abundance of rear cameras. Like smartphone salesAcross the entire smartphone world, the products and news announced at MWC are a glimpse of hopes of reviving one of the world's fastest industries on the planet.
Here are the phones and brands we expect to see take that challenge.
Number of phones likely: 3-4
Samsung press conference: 20 February 11:00 PT / 2 p.m. ET, San Francisco
Samsung MWC cab opens: February 25 in Barcelona
Yes, Samsung has already launched the Galaxy S10 and potentially a lot of other phones and devices. But the king of the hill will definitely take the opportunity to go big with his cabin and show all his fun, new toys. Especially if we really see one.
While the world's largest phone manufacturer does not host a press conference, my money on Samsung is saved a few demo surprises for the MWC – and I'm just wondering here – for example, quite a lot for the upcoming foldable phone …?

Oppo press conference: February 23 at. CET / 8 a.m. ET / 5 a.m. PT
Chinese brand Oppo brought us showstoppingin 2018, so we hope for a similar view. If the rumors are to be believed, Oppo can be ready for the Oppo F11 Pro, a full-screen phone with a 48 megapixel camera that comes out of the body and excellent low-light images. It looks like it would also have the fantastic gradient design on the back.
Number of phones likely: 2-3
Xiaomi press conference: February 24, at 10:30 AM / 4:30 AM ET / 1:30 AM PT
Xiaomi stole some of Samsung's foldable phone thunder as it posted a video drill its totally unique foldable phone design. We can only hope this is what is on the Xiaomos plate for MWC.
However, the Xiaomi Mi 9 flagship phone also skips around the corridors of presumption. Xiaomi has taken the opportunity at MWC to launch this phone line before, so the message is grounded. Xiaomi usually makes an advanced variant of its Mi phones, either a pro model or a special edition.
Number of phones likely: 2
Huawei press conference: February 24 at. CET / 10 a.m. ET / 7 a.m. PT
Honorary press conference: February 26 at. CET / 10 a.m. ET / 7 a.m. PT
Huawei told us in so many words that it plans to have a foldable phone with 5G support in February, possibly the 2019's main phone trends in a single – probably ridiculously expensive device. This would be a tremendous moment for the besieged No. 2 smartphone brand, and a chance to up-to-date Samsung whose foldable phone is expected to appear in San Francisco a few days before Huawei's press conference.
Huawei hopes to take over Samsung as the world's No. 1 smartphone brand by the end of 2020.
Honor, a Huawei offshoot that the company has been trying to spin out as its own brand for years, will host a "party" that is also a presentation. A midprice honor 11 seems likely. This phone would follow the showy Honorary View 20, which has a surprisingly good 48-megapixel camera for a mid-range phone.
Nokia / HMD
Number of phones likely: 1-2
Nokia phones press conference: February 24 at. CET / 10 a.m. ET / 7 a.m. PT
We only expect a Nokia phone from HMD, the company licensing the Nokia name, but the one we think we get would be a doozy.
According to a rendering posted of frequent Twitter leaker Evan Blass, Nokia 9 PureView will have five cameras on the back, use Zeiss camera technology and run the Android One, the "clean" version of Android that Google shares with device manufacturers.
It is also possible that HMD will do this for its third year of releasing a throwback feature phone (also "stupid phone") to the pleasure of nostalgic types everywhere. The last few years"banana phone" and 2017's Nokia supercheap practically won the MWC in their respective years.
Number of phones likely: 2-3
LG press conference: February 24, 7:30 pm CET / 1: 30 pm ET / 10:30 pm PT
LG was not shy about announcing its own LG G8 ThinQ phone in front of MCW, complete with a 3D front camera that can surely unlock the phone like the iPhone XS and iPhone X before it.
G8 is also expected to have another screen box attachment, CNET reported.
We don't know much else about LG G8 or if LG also shows or retrieves a foldable phone like so many others. But we already believe that LG may announce a 5G device.
The handset maker has also been known for pulling out midfields like LG X Power, so there is a possibility that a phone like it could also make its debut.
Number of phones likely: 3
Sony press conference: February 25, at 8:30 am CET / 2:30 pm 30:00 ET / 11:30 pm PT (February 24)
Smokers point out that Sony Xperia X4 is the mark after last year's Xperia X3. We can look for bold camera requests here, including improvements to slow motion video.
It is unlikely that we will soon see a 5G phone from Sony. The company does not want to rush a product that most phone buyers will not shake up in 2019, said Don Mesa, Sony Mobile's marketing VP, Digital Trends in January. But Sony often reveals a handful of midrange models along with its top device.
Number of phones likely: 1
OnePlus does not hold a press conference at MWC, but it will be on the ground. Chances are, it will support carrier partners as UK airline EE, which announced last December that awould be its first. It is very likely that the phone will appear at MWC.
